EECO Committee First Event

Hello Beautiful Club Members!

I trust all had amazing summers.  We soon start off another school year and I wanted to fill you in on a potential opportunity for involvement with the Environmental Education and Community Outreach Committee.  Alli and I will be attending the training below to help out with the Ballona Wetlands (part of the Santa Monica Bay restoration) open houses. We hope to expand this Env Education opportunity in collaboration with the wetlands as the semester continues.  Let me know if you would like to join us.  I will arrange for a carpool situation if there are takers:)

Alli and I have also come up with some great ideas for the semester and we are stoked to share them with you and get your ideas:)  Our first meeting will most likely take place a couple weeks into the semester, so keep your ears/eyes open for more info.  Feel free to hit me up if you have any questions, comments, or ideas. Enjoy your last few weeks of summer!

Peace

I wanted to let you know about an outreach opportunity at the Ballona Wetlands for you guys to participate in.  The SMBRC is looking for student participation in our outreach Open House events to be held monthly at Ballona (open to the public).  We will be leading tours (beginning in the Fiji Gateway area in Area A).  We are looking for volunteers to assist us developing this program and eventually to continue by leading some of the tours for children, etc.

If you are interested, please attend either our first training session:

Wednesday, August 18th (0900-1130); and/or our first open house event:

Saturday, August 21st (0830-1200)

(If you would like to participate, it's important that you try to attend one of these events – preferably the training session).  If you know of any education students who might also be interested in this opportunity, please feel free to forward on this notification and/or have them contact me.  I'm also attaching a PDF with a few more details about the event (our Ballona newsletter).

Additional important dates to keep in mind… Our next bacteria sampling event:

Thursday, August 12th (all day!); and the reading times on:

Friday, August 13th (throughout day)

PS – here are a couple cool coyote videos on our youtube account for the Ballona Wetlands Restoration Project.  They came from our Critter Cams.  Enjoy and have a great weekend!
