Eco Week Starts Tomorrow! ESP Club Event Tuesday!

Good Evening Greenies,

Tomorrow begins CSULB's celebration of all things environmental at Eco Week! We will be tabling in front of the Hall of Science along with other demonstrations Monday and Tuesday from 11AM-2PM. If you have signed up to table at 11AM, please arrive 15 minutes early for set up. Also, those working until 2PM, please make sure all of our tabling items are picked up by an officer. (Wear the club T-shirt if you have it!)

We are collecting bottle caps to recycle! Students will be entered in a raffle (we have to call it an "opportunity drawing") to win one of three $10 gift cards to the bookstore. They can drop it off during tabling! If you are tabling make sure the students write their names and emails clearly on the tickets!!!

We will be giving away some awesome ESP Club recycled sunglasses (grab a pair for yourself) to students. When I say "giving away", make the students work for it! Educate them on the club or fun environmentally friendly facts.

Also the most important information of all...

Our "Green Screen" event is this Tuesday 4PM in the Beach Auditorium (1st floor of the USU). We want the best attendance possible so invite your friends and make class announcements!!!

There will be no general meeting tomorrow, so be sure to take that time to head out to the fair.

Have a good week and be sure to come help and support the club.

Cheers,

Brianna Pagan

Eco-Week Preparation and Reminders

Hey all!

I just wanted to send out some quick notifications and reminders in preparation for Eco-Week (next week, Monday - Tuesday, 22 - 23, from 11am - 2pm, on Friendship Walk).

First off, the building group that is building the beer bottle sculpture will be meeting this Friday at Kyle Christopherson's house if you would like to help them out! His number is 562-310-8925 if you need to contact him about details.

Second, the bottle cap group has placed one or two bottle cap collecting bins near the El Pollo Loco and Carl's Jr on the second floor of the USU. If you have any caps to drop off, please do before Friday afternoon when these bins will be picked up!

Third, if anybody has any film submissions (or knows anybody who is working on an eco film) that they still need to put the final touches on and submit, please do so ASAP (preferably by Friday) and please contact Kaveh Lavasany at 714-915-5058.

Finally, Kelsey should be sending out a schedule of who is tabling when for Eco-Week very soon so you will all be ready!

If anyone has any final questions, please reply to this e-mail ASAP and we will get back to you.

Best,
Your president,
Nick Thibeault

P.S.: We will not be having a meeting Monday afternoon because of Eco-Week tabling.

ESP Club Meeting Guest Speaker with Internship Opportunities + Hike!

Hello Fellow Greenies,

This is a friendly reminder that tomorrow is the second meeting of the semester 12:30-1:30 in HSCI 105.

We will be having a guest speaker, Adrienne Bosler from the Palos Verdes Land Conservancy! She will be discussing what her company does, how it relates to Environmental Science and the open internship and job opportunities! (They are currently accepting applications!). Many ESP alumni have gone to work for PVLC so this is a great networking opportunity.

In addition you will be able to sign up for this coming weekends hike. This will take place Sunday, September 23rd from 8AM- around 2PM. We will meet in Lot 1 at 7:45 and leave campus by 8AM. We are arranging carpool so if you are willing to drive and take a friend or two let us know! The hike is Tujunga Canyon Falls read more about it here:

Waterfall and swimming, the perfect way to end summer! Be sure to sign one of the waivers at tomorrows meeting or Sunday morning to be able to go!

Hope to see you tomorrow!

Cheers,

Brianna Pagan

Our next meeting!

Hey everyone!

In our agenda for the next meeting, we will introduce the new officers, address the position(s) of community/public outreach, have elections for the position of secretary, have a guest speaker from Palos Verdes Land Conservancy (PVLC) to talk about internships and volunteer opportunities, and discuss the upcoming hike! We will address other future plans, ideas, and concerns if we have time remaining.

Since we have several people interested in the position of secretary, I am informing those interested of what this position requires, asking them to make brief (under 5 minute) speeches, and announcing that elections for that position will be held immediately after the speeches by collecting strips of paper with the desired candidate's name(s) on them and quickly tallying up the votes while the guest speaker addresses us. This position requires taking meeting (general and officer) minutes/agenda, distributing these via our club's email, adding people to our email list, answering and sending club emails when possible, collaborating with our webmaster on some electronic media, representing the club in correspondence (whether in person, over phone, or over email) with entities outside the club, and making reservations/taking care of paperwork that goes along with that/taking care of stuff like collecting liability forms if other officers haven't already taken care of reservations/paperwork. This is an important responsibility/position, so I hope those who are interested are up for it. If so, just prepare a brief speech (less than 5 minutes) about who you are, what your major is, and what experience you have that is relevant to this position. As stated above, we will then move on to elections, tally up votes, and announce victor at end of meeting.

Hope to see you all there!

Best,
Nick T.
