Important Club Info and Amazing Opportunities to Pump Up Your Resume!

Hello everyone!

I just wanted to get all of the club members on the same page by giving you all an update about the club this semester.  There is also two awesome new opportunities that might interest you, so read below for that!

Update:
So, in the club meetings this semester, we have decided to focus on three main goals to work together towards:
1.) Getting an urban farm on campus
2.) Banning plastic water bottles at CSULB (specifically targeting the Beach bottles)
3.) Banning plastic bags at all stores on campus.
During the meetings we have been forming groups, coming up with goals and tasks, and combining all of our resources to start taking action.  If you are unable to make it to the meetings, but still want to help out, send us an email - we will need all the help we can get!  I know several of you are used to meetings that are more relaxed, where you can just sit back and listen, - don't worry we will have guest speakers and time for that, still.  Just imagine how awesome it will be by the end of all our hard work to say that we got an urban farm on campus and eliminated plastic bags and water bottles, too!  If you have any suggestions for these groups or any resources you want to share with the club

Event:
Pepsi Refresh Creative Reuse Day Celebration
12:00 - 5:00 PM Sunday, February 27
320 Elm Avenue, Long Beach, CA 90802
Tons of opportunities to observe and practice reuse, and freebies :)

Opportunity #1:
Power Shift 2011
April 15-18 in Washington DC
Interested in going to a training session to create environmental change?  Interested in being a Power Shift Coordinator to recruit people?  Let us know, and the club will help fundraise to get you there!  Give us an email if you want more information, don't hesitate, because this would look so amazing on your resume and really would be a great opportunity!  This is time sensitive, so let us know ASAP.

Opportunity #2:
After meeting with ASI President today, we found out that ASI is looking for someone to sit in on a new Environmental Committee!  They need to fill in the position SOON, so let us know if you are interested, or would like to learn more information!

Opportunity #3:
The Green Campus Program is looking to hire another one or two interns!  They are looking for anyone who still has a year or more left of school and who are interested in making CSULB green!  See attached flier for more details.

Opportunity #4:
We are pleased to announce a new pilot internship program in partnership with the California Department of Fish and Game (CDFG):
COAST-CDFG Summer 2011 Student Internships
http://www.calstate.edu/coast/funding/internal_funding.shtml
http://www.calstate.edu/coast/funding/student_Intern_2011_rfa.shtml

Interns will be placed throughout California to work side-by-side with CDFG biologists on current research projects. This is an excellent opportunity for CSU students to gain valuable experience and technical skills while working with expert biologists.
